Troubleshooting Problems With Your Central Heating

If your central heat isn't heating your home the way it should, it doesn't always mean that you have major issues. The problem is often a simple one that you can easily take care of yourself. If you find your heater isn't working how it should or it isn't heating your home evenly, try some of the tips detailed below in this article.

Understanding your heating system

When it comes to figuring out why your heater isn't working properly, you want to have some basic knowledge of how the system works. This will allow you to do some trouble shooting on your own to see whether or not the problem is something you can fix.

A central heating system heats an entire house by moving air from a return register through the heating unit and into ducts that make their way through the house. These ducts go to vents that are usually in just about every room in the house. For your central heating to work properly the air needs to be able to make it through all sections of the system, and the heating unit needs to be in good working condition.

Troubleshooting problems

Heater won't turn on - If the heater isn't coming on, go to the thermostat and make sure it is clicked to the on position and that it is set higher than the current temperature in the house. If this doesn't work, then you want to go to the fuse box and make sure the fuse didn't trip. If it did, flip it back to the on position.

Heater heats house unevenly – If your heater doesn't distribute the heat evenly, then you want to make sure all the vents are open in each room of the house and free of dust build up. If this doesn't solve the problem, you may have a leak in a duct and should call out an HVAC technician.

Heater doesn't work as well as it did – If the heater seems to take a bit longer to warm the house than usual, you want to make sure your filter is clean.

Heater starts making odd sounds – If your unit starts making new sounds, then you should get an HVAC technician out. A new sound indicates a potential problem such as loose, worn out or failing parts.

By remembering these tips you will know what to do if your central heating system starts to give you some problems. For more information talk to a company like McLaughlin Air Conditioning Co Inc.

Tips for All Stages of Home Remodeling and Renovating

When my wife and I were looking for a new home, we only had a few homes to choose from that were within the district we wanted our children to attend. That made it tough to find a home that was "perfect" for us, but thankfully, we left room in our budget to make changes to the home we bought. Thankfully, the home we bought was large enough for us to live in during the renovation process, although we did have to make our children share rooms until we added that bedroom we needed. We learned that careful planning is important to ensuring the final result of your renovation projects is exactly how you want it, and we dedicated at lot of time to planning. We learned so much during the process that we wanted to make a blog to share our tips and experience on!
