If you notice that there is water gathering around the base of the toilet it doesn’t necessarily mean that someone is missing the toilet. It could be that your toilet is leaking. There are different reasons that your toilet might be leaking. One of those reasons is that the wax seal under your toilet isn’t working anymore and needs to be replaced.  What Is the Wax Seal? The wax seal is a thick, circular piece of wax that acts as a gasket under your toilet. Its job is to seal your toilet to the floor to make sure that there are no leaks. As it ages, it can start to fail. That will lead to leaks around the base of your toilet. The more it fails, the more water gets out. Luckily it’s a fairly easy fix.  How Is a Wax Seal Replaced? The first thing you need to do is to get a new wax seal. These seals are generally universal, but it’s a good idea to write down the maker of your toilet so that you can make sure that the ring you get will fit on your toilet.  Make sure that you have all the right tools. You are going to need a wrench to remove all the nuts and bolts, and a flathead screwdriver to pry some parts apart. Have a plunger handy. You may also want to have some kind of lubricating oil close at hand in case you have any bolts that don’t want to come to loose.  After you gather up all the necessary tools, it’s time to get started. Turn off the water. There should be a valve right next to your toilet. You can turn that valve off so that no more water runs to your toilet. You may decide to turn off the water supply to your entire house just to be safe. The best way to tell if you have turned off the water is to flush your toilet. If no water comes in to fill up the tank, you’re ready to go. You need to flush your toilet anyway so that you get rid of all the water in it. You have to take your toilet off its base, so you need to make sure that the water is out of it. Flush it until your tank and bowl are completely empty. You can plunge it at this time to make sure that all the water goes down into the pipes.  Now it’s time to start dealing with the nuts and bolts of the job. First, use your flathead screwdriver to take all the caps protecting the bolts on the base of the toilet. Use it to...

Posted by on Dec 5, 2014 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Chain link fencing is one of the most versatile types of materials for fences that is currently available. This type of fencing provides you with security. Plus, it’s durable. At the same time, it’s also inexpensive. However, it isn’t as naturally eye-appealing as some other fencing options. In fact, it seems to look more industrial, which may not be a problem for you. However, if it is, you can get around it. In fact, if you find your chain link fence unattractive, there are ways you can spruce it up to give that much-needed vivacity. 1. Add a Coat of Paint. One of the easiest ways to add a little bit of pizzazz to your chain link fence is by giving it some color with a coat of paint. New chain link fences actually can be purchased outright in a variety of colors. However, if your fence is older, then this may not have been an option. When you do paint your chain link fence, make sure to use a rust-inhibiting paint to provide additional protection. As for colors, you can stick to a plain black or brown or you can go all out with a bright yellow. It all depends on your personal preference and the style of your home. 2. Consider Bamboo Slats. For a unique, interesting and rustic look, you can use bamboo slats to run through the slots of your chain link fence. It provides you with more privacy and increases your home’s security (by deterring burglars), while also making your fence look amazingly beautiful. 3. Opt for Vinyl Slats. Apart from bamboo slats, you could also use vinyl slats in the same way. With vinyl, though, you can use a variety of colors, which can really give your fence that extra “pop” that it needs to stand out. These slats are require little to no maintenance and are resistant to most weather conditions.  4. Get Creative with Plastic Cups. Whether you want to write out “Merry Christmas” in December or “Happy Fourth of July” in July, you can use plastic cups in your chain link fence to relay any message that you would like to your guests, neighbors and passersby. Some people find that this looks tacky, so this isn’t an option for everyone. However, you can use the cups to create messages or even designs. 5. Line the Fence with Plants. If you have a green thumb, you may want to consider growing plants along your chain link fence, such as flowers and shrubs. You could even opt for plants that will grow tall and through the slots of the fence. For a rustic look, you can take the vines from these plants...
